I loved the last book , this book didn’t really grab a hold on me in the beginning, I thought about not finishing it , but when I got toward the end , the story line picked back up , and I loved the ending

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I'm not totally sure I liked this book。I didn't hate it, but most of it felt weird and very repetitive (at least the first half) and I didn't really get where Chainani whanted to go with this at all。 In all fairness, the book peaks with one of the funniest scenes I've read this year - which is Tedros realizing he just kissed Filip and trying to justify himself lamely - but then it crashes again with the weird scene of Sophie true-love kissing the fake ghost of her own dead mother? What the hell I'm not totally sure I liked this book。I didn't hate it, but most of it felt weird and very repetitive (at least the first half) and I didn't really get where Chainani whanted to go with this at all。 In all fairness, the book peaks with one of the funniest scenes I've read this year - which is Tedros realizing he just kissed Filip and trying to justify himself lamely - but then it crashes again with the weird scene of Sophie true-love kissing the fake ghost of her own dead mother? Considering how much I absolutely loved the first book, this book was extremely disappointing。

2nd book is just as stellar as the first, although it didn't follow the typical 3-book-layout of book #2 being the worst and slowest (well, I can't 100% confirm that because I haven't read #3 yet)。。。 and the series is now 6 books long。 2nd book is just as stellar as the first, although it didn't follow the typical 3-book-layout of book #2 being the worst and slowest (well, I can't 100% confirm that because I haven't read #3 yet)。。。 and the series is now 6 books long。 。。。more

La razón por la que no le pongo 1 estrella es por el final, es un 2。5, además, Tedros bisexual canon

Expected rating: 4/5Actual rating: 4/5I feel like this book leaned into gender stereotypes way too much, more so than the first one。 In the first one it was somewhat okay considering it was just telling the story of how people believed fairy tales to be but in this book it's just plain in there。 The story was good though and I loved the character development in this book。 These books are a rollercoaster of emotions, making you laugh and cry in a single book。 Expected rating: 4/5Actual rating: 4/5I feel like this book leaned into gender stereotypes way too much, more so than the first one。 In the first one it was somewhat okay considering it was just telling the story of how people believed fairy tales to be but in this book it's just plain in there。 The story was good though and I loved the character development in this book。 These books are a rollercoaster of emotions, making you laugh and cry in a single book。 。。。more

2。5i got tired of the book somewhere in the middle。 it was interesting to see agatha and the witches。 but why does the author force them to be so stupid? it is clear as day that these agatha, dot, hester and anadil are the smartest in the series。 anyways, dot is my favorite character。 my mind can't be changed。 2。5i got tired of the book somewhere in the middle。 it was interesting to see agatha and the witches。 but why does the author force them to be so stupid? it is clear as day that these agatha, dot, hester and anadil are the smartest in the series。 anyways, dot is my favorite character。 my mind can't be changed。 。。。more

A huge glow down compared to book 1。 There were so many disagreeable scenes and moments oh gosh。 When I think of this book the two feelings coming to my mind are secondhand embarrassment and confusion。。。Nevertheless there were also some fun and enjoyable parts and I still like the whole idea of the story。 However, I'll have to think really hard whether to continue on with the series :/ A huge glow down compared to book 1。 There were so many disagreeable scenes and moments oh gosh。 When I think of this book the two feelings coming to my mind are secondhand embarrassment and confusion。。。Nevertheless there were also some fun and enjoyable parts and I still like the whole idea of the story。 However, I'll have to think really hard whether to continue on with the series :/ 。。。more

Nope。(Spoilers for book 1。)The first book had great potential, though it was sometimes confusing, so much so that like an idiot I bought the box set。 Can't do it。I must add to the chorus of how rampantly sexist the book is。 I was delighted at the end of the first book that true love's kiss was between Agatha and Sophie。 And the concept of a world without princes has potential。 I could even see in the name of the contrast between Evers and Nevers that yes, Evers are clean and cute and Nevers gros Nope。(Spoilers for book 1。)The first book had great potential, though it was sometimes confusing, so much so that like an idiot I bought the box set。 Can't do it。I must add to the chorus of how rampantly sexist the book is。 I was delighted at the end of the first book that true love's kiss was between Agatha and Sophie。 And the concept of a world without princes has potential。 I could even see in the name of the contrast between Evers and Nevers that yes, Evers are clean and cute and Nevers gross。 But the book puts forth that princesses must have princes, that's it's not ok for princesses to eat candy and cut their hair short and study real subjects and not wear makeup。 That a girl is not complete without a boy。 Just no。There were lots of ways to make this actually work, but the author took the fairy tale trope to heart so hard that it is indeed the truly poisonous (pun intended) interpretation of fairy tales - burn the witches, cook them in ovens, punish them in the full Grimm sense and make sure happily ever after, the truly unattainable goal, is the only correct answer。Please don't let your daughters read this series。 I shudder at what the rest of it is。Now what to do with the box set。。。 。。。more

Might contain small spoilers of the first book。 Okay, so the book is fun。 It is entertaining and still quite the unique storyline, just like the first book。 However, this book kind of takes out the whole feminist aspect of the first book ruins it, and turns it into ''girls are evil if they don't want a boy''。 There are many ways the author could have made them go back, even had Agatha chosen the prince or wanted the prince, without it ending up sending this message。 It makes sense to have this t Might contain small spoilers of the first book。 Okay, so the book is fun。 It is entertaining and still quite the unique storyline, just like the first book。 However, this book kind of takes out the whole feminist aspect of the first book ruins it, and turns it into ''girls are evil if they don't want a boy''。 There are many ways the author could have made them go back, even had Agatha chosen the prince or wanted the prince, without it ending up sending this message。 It makes sense to have this turn to be able to continue the series。 I just wish it had been done in a way that didn't basically cancel out the entire message of the first book。If we ignore the borderline sexist message of the book, the story itself is pretty good。 A new evil comes to the school, new challenges to overcome, change in some minor characters - it is all pretty good。 I like books full of doubt and mistrust, and this book really delivers that。 A few times, I felt like the author missed his opportunities to make the book great by going in a completely different direction than what I would have loved。 I think the book needs to not be taken too seriously。 It just needs to be a fun story, and if you don't lay too much into it, it is。 。。。more

This is definitely a fun and enjoyable read, as long as you're not looking to analyze it too closely。I love the fairytale aspects of these books, embracing the whimsical while also not shying away from the darker side of things, as well as the complex relationship between the two main characters。 I find Agatha and Sophie fascinating in the way they break from what would be the normal tropes for their characters。 Sophie's constant battle to shun her 'evil' side because she wants to be good was re This is definitely a fun and enjoyable read, as long as you're not looking to analyze it too closely。I love the fairytale aspects of these books, embracing the whimsical while also not shying away from the darker side of things, as well as the complex relationship between the two main characters。 I find Agatha and Sophie fascinating in the way they break from what would be the normal tropes for their characters。 Sophie's constant battle to shun her 'evil' side because she wants to be good was really interesting and I think speaks to the way a lot of people feel sometimes when we are being petty or have unkind thoughts- though obviously it's a bit more exaggerated here。 Agatha's conflict was also engaging, with her struggling between choosing her best friend and choosing the boy she likes (possibly loves), and the way she was forced into believing she could only have one based on the actions of others。I found the boys schools vs。 girls school pretty funny, even though it was playing on stereotypes。 That said, this whole series is kind of poking fun of stereotypes so I definitely think this is supposed to be taken with a grain of salt and seen as something humorous rather than any real commentary on either gender。 Not to say that there wasn't some subversion of traditional gender characteristics/roles in the story that felt a little more meaningful than girls vs boys, I just think anyone looking for this to be some super nuanced commentary on that is just going to find themselves disappointed, because I don't think that was what this book was going for。Overall, I really enjoyed this installment and all it's twists and turns。 Looking forward to reading the third book and seeing what happens next。 。。。more

3。5 starsThis was a pretty good second book, and the ending really had me on the edge of my seat。 However, it wasn't as strong as the first book。What I liked: The author does a good job of setting up the new situation at the schools and why things are so messed up after the unexpected events at the end of the first book。 It was kind of fun seeing where things got all mixed up, but it was definitely not all fun and games。 I would say this book is actually darker than the first。 The ending was als 3。5 starsThis was a pretty good second book, and the ending really had me on the edge of my seat。 However, it wasn't as strong as the first book。What I liked: The author does a good job of setting up the new situation at the schools and why things are so messed up after the unexpected events at the end of the first book。 It was kind of fun seeing where things got all mixed up, but it was definitely not all fun and games。 I would say this book is actually darker than the first。 The ending was also well done and the unexpected twists made sense after they were explained, and I was able to pick up clues from the past。 My favorite side character is Tristan and I'll let you figure out his part of the story。What I didn't like as much:Okay, I get that Sophie is supposed to be the evil one。 But why is outside "ugliness" always a sign that she's reverting to evil? With the emphasis on each of them getting to choose how they want to look on the outside it annoys me that any time a wart showed up or she lost some hair or whatever, it was a sign that evil was taking over her body。 I was initially annoyed by the girls vs boys thing and how one is automatically good or bad, but ultimately, I think the author did a good job of pointing out why that is NOT the case。 There were also many moments when I just wanted to slap Sophie because she was so wrapped up in herself。 Again, I get that she's supposed to be evil, but it took some time for me to see that she was learning important lessons。 She still managed to annoy me at the end, lol。 That said, the author was able to convince me that there are deep motivations that stem from her past that are driving her to make the choices that she is making。 But he was also able to leave me with enough questions about whether these are all her choices or if she's being completely manipulated。 Or perhaps it's a combination。 All this to say that I'm planning on reading further in the series。 。。。more
